The Friends and Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club met Feb. 27 at Country Inn in Dudleytown for lunch.

President Ruby Niccum opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the club creed. The group, led by Shirley Sears, sang a song to the tune of “Forever and Ever, Amen.”

Eleven members responded to the roll call by giving the last compliment they had received. A coins for friendship tin was circulated.

Niccum reported on the Feb. 12 council meeting. She urged participation in the Head Start reading program. Members are to contact Olga Otte if they are interested in helping. Also, Gleaners is sponsoring a weekend backpack special for children in need of food. The cost is $200 per child per year.

The next district meeting will be March 15 at Southern Hills in Salem. The club needs to have several attendees. Eunice Lacey will be the new representative for the Bedford District. Niccum also reminded members of dues to be collected next month.

Devotional leader Judy Carter used 1 Peter 4:8. She stated love is not just for couples but for everyone. In addition, she passed out a toy soldier and asked that members place it next to their prayer journals as a reminder to pray for the military each day.

As part of a show-and-tell of goals accomplished, Niccum brought a hanging quilt and Sears brought a dress with jacket that they each had made.

The next meeting will be March 27.
