Deadline for voter registration nearing

Amanda Lowery, clerk of Jackson Circuit Court, recently announced that the last day to register to vote for the May 8 primary election will be April 9.

Voter registration will not begin again until May 22.

Applications must be received by the clerk’s office in the courthouse at 111 S. Main St. in Brownstown or be postmarked by April 9.

Absentee or early voting begins April 10 and continues through May 7 in the lobby of the courthouse, while the absentee polling site at Jackson Superior Court I at 1420 Corporate Way in Seymour will be open from April 23 to May 7.

Weekday hours at the courthouse are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while weekday hours at superior court are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hours at both sites will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28 and May 5 and 8 a.m. to noon May 7.

A traveling board for absentee voting will begin at 8 a.m. April 19 and run as needed during courthouse business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday) until May 7.
