Athletes which set school records were praised by their coaches, all-conference athletes were recognized, and athletes that led their team in various categories received trophies when Crothersville held its winter sports awards program Thursday night.

Middle school basketball teams and cheerleaders were also honored.

The Crothersville girls were 13-10, which gave Coach Kevin Hensley his fourth straight winning season.

Tayler Brewer topped the team in scoring and rebounding. She scored 441 points for an average of 19.2 points per game and had high games of 34 against Indianapolis Manual, 32 against Southwestern and 30 against Edinburgh.

Brewer pulled down 243 rebounds which puts her second on the school’s single season list and placed her eighth in the state this season.

Brewer, along with Piper Hensley, were named to the Southern Athletic All-Conference team.

Makayla Helt received the mental attitude award and Kaitlyn Silvers was the recipient of the coach’s award.

Coach Hensley said Helt worked hard to move into the starting lineup midway through the season, and Silvers, “worked her tail off.”

Silvers was the only senior on the team.

Piper Hensley received the 3-point shooting award for making 55 treys this season, and received the free throw award for making 89 of 105, and she has made 160 in three years.

Maddie Riley received the assists award as she averaged four assists per game and ranks third on the career list with 177.

“A lot of good things happened with our team, and we had some adversity,” Coach Hensley said. “We had a good season. Every team in our program had a great season. The girls have been in the gym on Saturdays working on their games. The eighth grade will take us to another level. Next year we should be pretty hard to beat.”

The boys varsity team went 15-9 and coach Greg Kilgore said that is the most wins he has had in his six seasons as head coach.

Kilgore said the Tigers lost two games in overtime and two other games by four points or less.

Logan Brewer and Zane Elliott set school records.

Brewer set the single-game scoring record with 45 against Christel House. He scored 402 points on the season for an average of 17.5, and scored 27 against Trinity Lutheran and 26 against Rock Creek Academy.

Elliott received the assists award for averaging seven per game. He had 142 for the season, and ranks second on the career list with 327. He set the school record with 20 against Madison Christian.

Kilgore announced Noah Hoskins and Brewer as co-recipients of the coaches’ award, while Lane Wienhorst and Josh Thomas shared the mental attitude award.

Dylan Wilson received the free throw award for making 75 percent from the line, Thomas received the rebound award for having 143 rebounds, Mat Wilburn received the 3-point shooting award for making 28 3’s, and Alex VanCoutren received the defensive award as he ‘took’ 22 charges.

Wilson, Brewer and Thomas were named to the All-SAC first team.

Seniors on the roster were Elliott, Hoskins, VanCoutren, Wilson and Winburn.

“The seniors really brought pride back to the program,” Kilgore said. “It was nothing they did special. They just worked hard.”

Cheerleader coach Angie Keasler introduced all the cheerleaders and presented the Paula Joy Sweany award to Chasta Lamb. Keasler said Lamb dedicated four years in high school to cheerleading, and that she was very deserving of the honor.

Lamb also received the best all-around cheerleader award, and the mental attitude award was presented to Brooklyn Huff

Madison Huff received the JV mental attitude award, and Lexie James was named best all-around JV cheerleader.
