A survivor

Thumbs-up to Lynde Doup of Seymour for sharing her struggles to overcome two separate traumatic brain injuries since 2001 in her book, “The Odds of Grace.” Doup plans to conduct a book signing from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Missionary Baptist Church, 312 Myers St., Seymour. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book will be given to Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, where Doup spent time recovering from injuries from being thrown from a horse in 2001 and a car crash in 2013.

Hospitable

Thumbs-up to everyone who helped make Seymour a hospitable place during the boys and girls basketball postseasons. Thousands of out-of-towners ventured here to watch girls and boys basketball games at Seymour High School’s Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium. They also visited restaurants, convenience stores, hotels and motels and other businesses in the area during their time in the city.

Natural volunteers

Thumbs-up to longtime volunteer Ralph Cooley with the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society and other volunteers, including Kris Luna, a master naturalist, who take the time to share the wonders of the 7,724-acre refuge east of Seymour with visitors during special events, such as Wetland Day.

Future leaders

Thumbs-up to the five student organizers of an informational event about school safety, mental health, bullying and civic duty March 14 at Seymour High School. The event took the place of ENOUGH, a national school walkout day based upon the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead Feb. 14. The five organizers were sophomores Luke Turner, Bailee Wolfe, Harrison Cottrill and Hannah Romero De Gante and senior Trent Hohenstreiter.

Messed up

Thumbs-down to the people who move out of rental properties and leave their unwanted items for others to clean up in the yard, the alley or sometimes even the street.

The wrong way

Thumbs-down to motorists who drive the wrong way on one-way streets just to make their drive a little easier.
