Freedom to choose led to curse of sin on human race

0

The fall of man resulted in all kinds of horrific consequences like sickness, death and shame, even down to the weeds in your garden and pain in childbirth.

It is a fact that a single act of disobedience brought a curse upon the entire human race. We can certainly be thankful that God has provided a way for us to be saved from the eternal consequences of sin, but the temporary earthly consequences of sin still remain.

We live in a world that is stained by sin. The world we are living in is not the world God intended. Sin came as a result of one man’s freedom to choose. If you’re thinking that’s not fair, you are right. Life’s not fair.

And the fall of man reminds us that sin has a ripple effect. You don’t sin in a vacuum. Our sin has a way of impacting other people.

I suppose all of us have seen someone who got hurt by the sin of someone else. Sin is devastating like that, and while most of us are quick to judge Adam and Eve, based on our own history, I am not convinced that the condition of the world would be much different if you or I had been the ones in the garden that day.

With the freedom to choose right comes the distinct possibility of choosing wrong, and that is exactly what Adam did. We have all chosen wrong along the way. That is why the Bible says we have all sinned. There are no exceptions.

Abraham lived about 4,000 years ago. In the book of Genesis, we see how God began to interact with Abraham.

God set out to correct the ills of this world and to repair what man had destroyed, and God decided to use a guy named Abraham to begin that process, so Abraham is a pivotal character in the history of the world.

God’s goal was to resolve the problem of sin, disobedience and corruption in the world. Today, we are going to listen in on a conversation between God and Abraham.

This conversation will help answer some of the questions that we have all asked: Where do I stand with God? Can God hear my prayers? Does God care about me? Can I know God? Can I have peace with God?

Our world was a mess. Something had to be done. We had a mess that was so big, we couldn’t clean it up on our own.

We needed God’s help, and in classic fashion, he came along to provide exactly what we needed. More on that next time …
