Cougars drop opener

RISING SUN

After multiple rainouts delayed the start of the season — for more than a week — Trinity Lutheran opened its season Wednesday at Rising Sun.

The long break didn’t help Trinity, as the Cougars fell to the Shiners 12-1 in five innings.

The Cougars (0-1) had 13 errors in the game. Trinity coach Matt VonDielingen said that nearly all of the runs scored by Rising Sun were off errors by Trinity.

The Shiners built a 4-0 lead after one inning and led 6-0 going into the third.

In the third inning, the Cougars got on the board on an RBI single from Jacob VonDielingen.

While the Cougars held the Shiners scoreless in the third inning, they gave up six runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Unable to cut the deficit, the Cougars were run-ruled.

VonDielingen was dealt the loss on the mound.

Trinity will host Jackson County foe Crothersville on Friday. Crothersville will open its season today at Henryville.
