GARY, Ind. — Police say a 28-year-old woman was fatally shot and her 8-year-old daughter was injured at a home in northwestern Indiana.

The Gary Police Department says it responded about 2 a.m. Tuesday to a call about shots fired and officers were flagged down by a person who reported two people were shot. The Lake County coroner’s office says Pamela Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say her 8-year-old daughter was taken to a hospital for treatment of an injury that was described as non-life-threatening.
