BASEBALL

Tigers earn conference win

ELIZABETH

Trevor Peters tossed 12 strikeouts on the mound and Crothersville had 10 combined hits in a 6-2 Southern Athletic Conference win at South Central on Friday.

The Tigers (3-2, 1-0 SAC) scored one in the second inning before giving up a pair in the bottom of the third.

Scoring two runs in the fourth, and three in the fifth, the Tigers used timely hitting and solid defense to beat the Rebels.

Alex Van Coutren had three hits and Jonathon Ritz and Logan Brewer each recorded two for CHS.

Peters pitched all seven innings, with five hits, four walks and two runs (none earned).

The Tigers will host Columbus Christian on Monday.

Braves drop MSC game

AUSTIN

Brownstown Central fell to Austin 8-7 on Thursday in a Mid-Southern Conference game.

The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jalen Hines sacrificed to give the Eagles the lead.

BC was outhit 9-5 in the game.

Austin fired up the offense in the first inning, when Jake Cole singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

The Braves scored three runs in the third inning, including on an RBI double from Lucas Hines.

Seth Borden took the loss for the Braves on the mound, recording three runs on three hits over two innings, and striking out four.

Eli Brown started the game for Braves, pitching four innings with five runs on six hits and four strikeouts.

The Braves (4-3, 1-2 MSC) will play a doubleheader at Trinity Lutheran today.

Braves beat MSC foe

CORYDON

Brownstown Central’s girls topped Corydon Central 101-30 and the boys picked up a 86-46 win on Friday.

BC’s girly only dropped three events on the afternoon.

Brooklyn Snodgrass won the pole vault (8-feet, 6-inches), long jump (14-6 1/2) and 100 (12-seconds) for the Braves.

BC’s Hayley Thomas took the discus (92-120), Ashley Schroer was first in the shot put (31-6 1/2) and Emily Koch cleared 4-8 to win the high jump.

Kayla Guthrie’s time of 17 seconds won the 100 hurdles while teammate Madison Klinge was first in the 300 hurdles in 52 seconds.

Kristen Stuckwisch’s time of 1:04 won the 400 and Kaelyn Johnson (12:54) had the best time in the 3,200.

All three relays went to the Braves.

Like the girls, the BC boys only dropped three events against the Panthers.

Colton Ritz was double winner, taking first in the long jump (18-5), 200 (23.41).

Lendon Underwood heaved 41-5 1/2 for first in the shot put and also won the discus (49-1).

In the distance events, Brownstown’s Ethan Carroll won the mile in 5:14 and 800 in 2:18, and Blake Kellogg took the 3,200 in 11:28.

Caleb Bollinger won the pole vault (11-0), Andrew Kellermeier took the 110 hurdles (17.38) and Trey Hackman was first in the 300 hurdles (46.47).

Both the 4×800 and 4×100 relays went to the Braves.

SOFTBALL

Braves beat Bulldogs

ORLEANS

Brownstown Central clobbered 16 hits in a 13-4 win at Orleans on Friday evening.

The Braves (3-7) scored two in the first inning, four in the third and one in the sixth before piling it on in the seventh with six more runs.

In the seventh inning, Zoe Fountain hit a grand slam for the Braves.

Five Braves had multiple hits on the evening, with Rilee Robinson and Kyra Huffman each recording three.

All 13 of the Braves’ runs were driven in.

Hannah Fisher went the distance in the circle, recording seven strikeouts to go along with 12 hits, no walks and four runs (one earned).
