Columbus East used its depth to score some big points late in the meet to pull away from Jennings County and win the Seymour boys track and field Invitational Tuesday night at wet Bulleit Stadium.

The Olympians scored 165.5 points, Jennings County scored 141.5, Bedford North Lawrence edged Seymour for third, 132-124, and Madison as fifth with 35 points.

Leading the Owls was Lance Roark, who picked up Seymour’s only first by winning the long jump at 20-feet, 8-1/2 inches.

Seymour coach Randy Fife said he was pleased to see Roark go over 20 feet again in the long jump.

“Lance was definitely as bright spot,” Fife said. “He ran on two relays and got first place in the long jump. He jumped over 20-feet again. He’s been very consistent in the long jump. He set a personal record tonight in the high jump at 6-feet, so he’s making a lot of progress so that’s going to help us down he road.”

The Owls picked up three places in the 3,200, with Jacob Voss second at 10-minutes, 25.11-seconds, Luke Plummer fourth at 10:55.6, and Luke Bane fifth at 10:55.9.

SHS had three places in the 1,600, as Trent Hohenstreiter finished second at 4:42.96, Plummer was third in 4:46.09, and Voss sixth at 4:50.53.

Hohenstreiter was also second in the 800 at 2:08.67.

The Owls were second in the 4×800 relay (8:54.48), second in the 4×100 relay (46.38), and fourth in the 4×400 relay.

“We scored thee in the distance races which was real solid,” Fife said. “We didn’t get any first places in the distances but when you get three places it kind of makes up for not getting a first.

“The kids competed well in the distance aces and gave us quite a few points. The relays competed well.”

Josh Pennington was third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 110 hurdles for the Owls.

Haden Mettert was third and Caleb Madden took fourth in the shot put. Madden also placed fourth in the discus.

Chandler Drummond claimed fifth in the pole vault and sixth in the high hurdles, and Luke Champ placed eighth in the 200 and 400.

The Owls will next compete at Shelbyville on Thursday.
