A credit union based in Wabash with a branch in Seymour is expanding.

Beacon Credit Union recently broke ground on a new 4,158-square-foot full-service office at 1459 W. Tipton St. with company officials in attendance.

The new facility, once complete in October, will have nine employees.

“Seymour is a growing and vibrant community in which we are honored to share the Beacon difference with new friends and family,” said Kevin Willour, president and CEO of Beacon.

Beacon Credit Union was founded in 1931 in Wabash County and has maintained an agriculture financing branch office in Seymour for more than 10 years. The company serves more than 43,000 customers through 30 offices.

The Seymour office provided loan financing to local farmers, but the new facility will offer teller pods, a drive-up ATM and the full services offered by the credit union, such as checking accounts, automobile loans and mortgages.

“This new full-service facility is just the beginning of our commitment and service to Seymour and the surrounding communities,” Willour said.

Several local companies are involved in the construction. They include Hovis Electric, Indianapolis; Matlock Plumbing Inc., Columbus; SMS Contracting LLC and Lawyer Excavation Inc., Seymour.

According to real estate documents, the company purchased the 2.13-acre lot along Tipton Street on Oct. 10 for $410,000.
