BASEBALL

Braves top Eagles

LANESVILLE — Brownstown Central beat the reigning Class A state champions, Lanesville, 6-4 on Thursday.

Back-to-back home runs by Ian Martin and Stuart Hayden, and a sacrifice by Isaiah Wineinger, gave the Braves an early 3-1 lead.

Leading 4-3, the Braves boosted the lead to 6-3 on a balk and RBI single from Stuart Hayden in the fifth inning. Hayden and Wineinger each finished with two RBIs.

BC gave up one run in the sixth inning and none in the seventh.

Matthew Bell picked up the win on the mound, pitching four innings and recording five strikeouts, eight hits, one walk and three earned runs. Seth Borden got the save for BC, tossing three innings, with four hits, three walks, three strikeouts and one earned run.

The Braves (8-7) were outhit 12-7 in the contest.

Brownstown will play at Henryville on Saturday.

Tigers lose in five

VERSAILLES — South Ripley ripped open a 7-0 lead after one inning and didn’t look back in a 13-0, five-inning win against Crothersville on Tuesday.

The Tigers (4-3) were outhit 8-3 in the game.

Trevor Peters took the loss on the mound, pitching one inning with two strikeouts, five hits, two walks and seven earned runs.

CHS will host Shawe Memorial on Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Braves earn MSC win

BROWNSTOWN — Brownstown Central collected 10 hits in an 8-5 Mid-Southern Conference win against Clarksville on Tuesday.

The Braves (4-9, 3-3 MSC) opened the game by scoring four runs in the first and one in the second to lead 5-0.

Clarksville scored one in the top of the fourth before the Braves answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Despite going on a mini scoring spree, adding four runs in the fifth inning, the Braves held the Generals scoreless in both the sixth and seventh to hold on for the win.

The Braves outhit the Generals 10-6 in the game, led by three hits by Kyra Huffman and two by Chloe Carlin. Addy Krieger and Reghen Stuckwisch each brought two runners in.

Hannah Fisher pitched all seven innings. She finished with six strikeouts, six hits, one walk and two earned runs.

Brownstown travels to Charlestown on Thursday.

Lions edge Cougars

SALEM — Salem held the visitors to a single run — despite getting outhit 7-4 — in a 2-1 win over Trinity Lutheranon Tuesday.

The Lions led 1-0 after an RBI single in the third inning, and extended the lead to 2-0 by scoring on an error in center field to lead 2-0 after five.

Sami Newmister singled to score Emma Goecker in the top of the sixth inning for the Cougars, but the rally fell short.

Hannah Deaton took the loss in the circle for Trinity (6-5), pitching six innings while recording four hits, four strikeouts, one walk and one earned run.

Trinity hosts Columbus East on Thursday.

BOYS GOLF

Cougars win at home

Led by Jacob Keith’s medalist score of 6-over-par 42 strokes, Trinity Lutheran defeated Hauser 190-209 on Tuesday at Shadowood Golf Course.

Noah Criswell was next for the Cougars with a 47, Mark Shoemaker shot 50, Ryland Nierman totaled 51 and Josiah Foster scored 54.

Trinity will play at the Hauser Invitational on Saturday at Clifty Creek Golf Course.

TRACK AND FIELD

Braves win tri meet

TRAFALGAR — Brownstown Central’s boys scored 89 points and the girls amassed 83.5 on Tuesday, with both teams coming out on top in a tri meet at Indian Creek with Edinburgh.

On the boys’ side, Colton Ritz won the pole vault at 14-feet, 6-inches and 200 in 23.7-seconds for the Braves.

Lendon Underwood was also a double-winner, taking the shot put (42-6) and discus (130-9).

Ethan Carroll was the champion in both the 800 (2:18) and 1,600 (5:36) and Mason Kellogg topped all times in the 3,200 (12:08).

The Braves combined for 46.62 to win the 4×100 and Andrew Kellermeier was fastest in the 110 hurdles in 17.41.

Brooklyn Snodgrass won the long jump (15-0) and the 100 (12.39) for the Braves’ girls team and Kaelyn Johnson took both the 1,600 (6;:21) and 3,200 (13:26).

Kayla Guthrie won the high jump (4-10), Madison Klinge took the 300 hurdles (52.5), and Kristen Stuckwisch was the fastest in the 400 (1:04.27)

Brownstown’s girls won all three relay events on the afternoon.

Crothersville falls

PEKIN — Eastern’s boys defeated Crothersville 76-36 in a rescheduled meet held Tuesday on the Musketeers’ track.

Leading the Tigers was Dillon Maschino, who won the long jump at 17-feet-91/2, the 100 at 11.73 and the 200 at 24.6.

Noah Hoskins picked up the Tigers’ only other fist by winning the discus with a throw of 118-11.

GIRLS TENNIS

Owls beat Bedford

Seymour’s tennis team celebrated senior night with a 3-2 win over Bedford North Lawrence at home Tuesday.

Gaining wins for the Owls were Grace Otte, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and Peyton Levine, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Mallory Moore and Avery Ragon won a tough match –6-2, 1-6, 6-1 — at No. 2 doubles to help the Owls improve to 6-4.

Prior to the match, Chloe Bryden, Connie Li, Madison Pifer and Otte were honored for senior night.

The Owls will host Providence on Thursday.

Warriors edge Cougars

Trinity Lutheran’s doubles teams came up with wins, but the Cougars fell short in singles and lost 3-2 to Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Macey Prewitt and Lauren Fleetwood won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Cassidy Burnside and Katelyn Mensendiek won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.

Courtney Barker lost her No. 1 singles match 7-5, 6-4.

The Cougars are 5-6.
