Owls finish tourney play

RICHMOND — Seymour lost to New Haven 6-5 before getting rained out during a game against Jay County at the Richmond Invitational on Saturday.

Against New Haven, the Owls fell behind 2-0 in the first inning before scoring runs in the second and third to tie the game.

After taking a 3-2 advantage in the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead.

Both teams added two runs in the fifth inning before the Bulldogs held on for the win.

Both teams had seven hits in the game. Alan Perry and Tiller Cummings each had home runs for the Owls.

Jayden Brown took the loss on the mound, working four innings. Trace Benson tossed the final two innings.

Seymour led 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning against Jay County before rain ended tourney play.

Seymour will host Eastern (Pekin) today before the postseason commences on Wednesday.

Braves split games

NORTH VERNON — Brownstown Central defeated Madison 9-7 before getting edged by Jennings County 3-2 in a pair of games at JCHS on Saturday.

Against the Cubs, Brownstown (13-12) built a 4-1 lead in the first inning before bolstering its advantage to 7-3 in the third.  BC then tacked on two more runs in the fourth.

Madison battled back to score two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, but fell short to the Braves.

The Braves outhit the Cubs 13-9, with Seth Borden collecting for hits for BC. Matthew Garland and Lucas Hits each had two hits.

Eli Brown was the winning pitcher, tossing six innings and recording eight strikeouts, nine hits, seven earned runs and one walk. Borden had the save on the mound.

In the second game, against Jennings, the Panthers scored early and held on for the win.

The Panthers pushed two runs across home plate in the first before both teams scored one in the second. BC added a run in the fourth inning, but couldn’t get another the rest of the way.

the Braves were outhit 8-6. Six different batters had a hit for the Braves.

Matthew Bell took the loss on the mound, pitching three innings. Issac Horton also tossed three innings for the Braves.

Bulldogs beat Tigers twice

ORLEANS — Orleans swept a doubleheader against Crothersville 15-5, in five innings, and 17-7, in six innings, on Saturday.

In game one, the Tigers scored all five of their runs in the top of the first inning. That lead didn’t last long, as the Bulldogs answered with eight runs.

The Bulldogs scored in each of the next four innings for the run-ruled win.

CHS was outhit 13-8 int he game. Alex VanCoutren and Trevor Peters each had two hits for the Tigers.

The Tigers threw three different pitchers in the game. Jacob James took the loss.

In the second game, the Tigers had 12 hits in the six-inning loss.

The teams tied at one run through three innings before the Tiger scored three in the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the inning with five innings before adding three in the fifth and eight in the sixth.

Jonathon Wiseman, Carson Farmer and Paul Lonsdorfer each had two hits for the Tigers.

Orleans had 11 hits in the game.

Logan Brewer was the losing pitching, working two innings. The Tigers again used three pitchers in the second game.

BOYS GOLF

Tigers compete at SAC

HENRYVILLE — Crothersville’s Will Amick, Josh Thomas and Quinten Keasler competed in the Southern Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday at Champions Pointe Golf Club.

Only three of the six SAC schools fielded full teams, with Henryville scoring 322 for the championship.

Henryville’s Westin Allen shot a 3-over-par 76 for medalist honors.

Amick shot 104, Thomas scored 144 and Keasler carded a 133 on the day.
