Braves advance to sectional semis

SELLERSBURG — Brownstown Central scored two runs in the opening frame and never looked back in a 6-3 Sectional 30 quarterfinals win over Corydon Central on Wednesday.

The Braves (15-12) opened the scoring with an RBI double by Ian Martin before Matthew Garland’s RBI single put the visitors up by two.

In the second inning, Seth Borden grounded out to score Clayton Barger. The Braves’ Jalen Tiemeyer followed with an RBI single to put the Braves up 4-0.

The Panthers scored on an RBI triple in the third inning, but the Braves answered with an RBI single from Stuart Hayden in the fourth.

Braves sophomore pitcher Eli Brown held the Panthers scoreless the rest of the way to get the win.

Brown went the distance on the mound, recording six strikeouts while giving up six hits, one walk and three earned runs.

The Braves didn’t have an error while the Panthers totaled four.

An error pushed a run across for the Braves in the top of the fifth before an RBI triple and single by the Panthers cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the inning.

Six different batters accounted for a hit in the game for the Braves.

The Braves will face North Harrison tonight in the semifinals. On April 9, the Cougars beat the Braves 3-2. The sectional championship game will be held on Monday.
