The eighth annual Ride to Remember, honoring fallen heroes and their families who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, will be Saturday and Sunday.

The ride includes a stop at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Jackson County Courthouse, 111 S. Main St., Brownstown, to remember Marine Lance Cpl. Hunter “H.D.” Hogan of Norman for his sacrifice. He was killed in action June 23, 2012, while serving in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

That will be followed by a stop at Vernon Cemetery to remember Marine Lance Cpl. Jacky Ray Koenig.

Each stop includes a presentation of flags and portrait, reading of the fallen hero’s biography, placement of a memorial plaque, a poem recital, prayer for the family and the fallen, placement of the rose, a 21-gun salute and playing of taps.

The ride will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday in Batesville and end at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in Versailles. Participants do not have to ride a motorcycle, as four-wheel vehicles are welcome.

The route is 300-plus miles with law enforcement support where available. Other stops to remember the servicemen from southern Indiana who lost their lives include Sunman, Aurora, Bennington, Madison, Scottsburg and Sellersburg on Saturday; and Clarksville, New Albany, Bartlettsville, Vernon and Versailles on Sunday.
