Students confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church

Thirty eighth-grade students publicly confirmed their faith during a service May 6 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.

Students pledged lifelong faithfulness to Christ, received Holy Communion for the first time and also became voting members of the congregation. The families, sponsors, friends and church members also promised ongoing support.

The previous Sunday, April 29, each of the students took turns answering questions concerning the Christian faith.

Preparation for confirmation involved several years of study of the Bible and its application to life, either as students at Immanuel Lutheran School or through Wednesday evening classes for middle school students. The students also participated in service projects.

The newly confirmed students wore robes and flowers and received certificates of confirmation and a special memento from the church in remembrance of this occasion.

A banquet in honor of the students was conducted April 29 in the church’s fellowship hall.
