The 2018 Dinner on the Bridge will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the historic Medora Covered Bridge off of State Road 235 east of Medora.

The dinner, sponsored by Friends of the Medora Covered Bridge, will feature LaDonna’s Country Cookin’. The menu prepared by the Salem caterer will include fried chicken and roast beef, scalloped potatoes, green beans, grape salad, broccoli salad, rolls, homemade pie, tea, lemonade and water.

Seating is limited to 300 people.

Tickets may be purchased by mailing a check for $25 per person to: FMCBA, P.O. Box 132, Medora, IN 47260. A self-addressed, stamped envelope is helpful but not required. Tickets also are available at the Jackson County Visitor Center in Seymour and at LaDonna’s Country Cookin’ in Salem.

The 434-foot bridge, built in 1875 by Joseph J. Daniels of Rockville, was closed to traffic in 1972 but remains open to pedestrians and bicyclists today. The Burr truss design bridge took nine months to build and cost $18,142. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the bridge was renovated in 2011 at a cost of $1.3 million.

Daniels built 50 covered bridges in Indiana, including two others in Jackson County — one at Shieldstown that still stands and recently was renovated and a second at Brownstown that no longer exists.
