A 19-year-old Austin man was arrested Sunday on four charges related to the molestation of a girl from the Crothersville area, police report.

James Everitt Amos was arrested on three Level 3 felony charges of child molesting and one Level 4 felony charge of child molesting stemming from an investigation that began on July 4 when the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a tip about possible child molestation.

Detective Tom Barker, who conducted the investigation with the help of county officer J.L. McElfresh, said police conducted interviews before arresting Amos.

Amos admitted during one of those interviews that he had molested the girl he had contacted through social media.

A Level 3 felony carries a potential sentence of three to 16 years upon conviction with an advisory sentence of nine years.

Amos was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 8:38 p.m. Sunday and was being held without bond pending his initial hearing.
