A Seymour man and woman were arrested on drug charges early Tuesday by police serving a warrant on the man in an apartment in North Vernon.

The investigation that led to the arrest of Brian Willman, 34, and Kayleana Tungate, 22, on possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia charges began when police received information about the possible location of a person wanted on a Jackson County warrant, according to a news release from Sgt. Andrew Richmond with the North Vernon Police Department.

Officer Lucas Newsom and Detective Ivory Sandefur followed up on that information and found Willman in an apartment in the 500 block of Brownstown Road, Richmond said.

While arresting Willman, officers reported seeing drug paraphernalia in the room, and a search uncovered 1.5 grams of methamphetamine, eight methamphetamine smoking pipes, digital scales and other drug paraphernalia, Richmond said.

Both Willman, who was wanted on a Jackson Circuit Court warrant for battery, a Level 6 felony, and Tungate were arrested and booked into the Jennings County Jail. Possession of methamphetamine also is a Level 6 felony, punishable by six months to two and a half years in prison upon conviction. Possession of paraphernalia is a Class A misdemeanor.
