Volunteers needed at Schneck Medical Center

Due to growth, Schneck Medical Center in Seymour is looking for volunteers to give a little extra care to make each patient’s experience as positive as it can be.

“At Schneck, our guild volunteers are partners in the patient experience and dedicate their time to offer Schneck patients, visitors and staff a helping hand wherever needed,” volunteer coordinator Amy Cockerham said.

Volunteers serve in various areas of the hospital, including the gift shop and admitting and information desks. They also transport patients and deliver patient and interdepartmental mail and patient flowers.

Volunteers are asked to work one four-hour shift per week but can work more if they would like. Opportunities currently available include:

  • Volunteer workroom (noon to 4 p.m. Mondays and 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays). Duties include discharging patients, delivering flowers and newspapers and collecting mail.
  • Cancer center (9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays). Duties include providing patients with snacks, beverages, warm blankets and magazines, stocking supplies, sanitizing chemotherapy chairs and wheelchairs and visiting with patients and families.
  • Courtesy shuttle (noon to 4 p.m. Mondays). Duties include driving patients, visitors and staff to their needed destination.
  • Surgery waiting (noon to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to noon every other Wednesday). Duties include checking in surgery patients, communicating with family members and assisting with cleaning patient rooms.
