Cougars drop wild season-opener

Greenwood Christian Academy’s eight first-half goals led to a 9-4 win over Trinity Lutheran on Thursday.

Trinity trailed 8-0 at intermission before Ricky Colon Castro scored two goals and A.J. Goecker and Trent Shoemaker each added scores to put the Cougars on the board.

Sawyer Doggett, Josiah Foster and Connor Sims each had assists in the game for Trinity.

The Cougars (0-1) will host Rising Sun on Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL

Tigers beat Eagles

AUSTIN — Crothersville beat Austin 25-22, 25-9, 26-28, 26-17 on Thursday.

Maddie Riley led the Tigers’ attack with nine kills and Bekah Cook had 28. The Tigers went 64-for-76 on hitting attempts.

Serving, Riley had five aces and Mariyah Kelshaw totaled three.

The Tigers (2-1) will host Borden tonight.

Hornets fall in four

MEDORA — Despite a strong start, Medora couldn’t get the upper hand on West Washington on Thursday.

The Hornets won the first set 25-22 before dropping the next three 25-12, 25-14, 25-12.

Kailen Flynn led the Hornets on offense, going 34-for-40 with nine kills and Gracey Cobb had four kills while making 20 of 21 tries.

Medora (1-3) travels to Rock Creek Academy on Tuesday.

BOYS TENNIS

Braves blank Cougars

Brownstown Central picked up its first Mid-Southern Conference win of 2018 by sweeping North Harrison 5-0 on Thursday.

At No .1 singles, Ethan Carlin defeated Joe Davis 6-0, 6-1. Ethan Wischmeier earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles over Jonathan Seitz while Adam Pottschmidt topped Logan Martin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jackson Lahrman and Gunnar Zickler beat Cameron Voyles and Ben Davis 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, and Max McClure and Reece Carlin claimed No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-0.

A rain delay led to the match ending around 9 p.m.

Brownstown (2-0, 1-0 MSC) will host Silver Creek on Monday for a key conference match.
