Brownstown Central senior’s speed translates to successes on gridiron

Speed is Grant Stuckwisch’s weapon of choice.

Whether he’s shutting down opposing wide receivers as a corner, running the ball or getting open down the field in the slot or sprinting to the finish line on the track, Stuckwisch has always used his quickness to his advantage.

He is in his fourth year of playing football at Brownstown Central High School and will also rejoin the track and field team in the spring.

He started playing football in the fifth grade in Brownstown’s 56ers program and hasn’t missed a fall on the gridiron since.

“It has just been a lot of fun playing football,” Stuckwisch said. “I like the physical part of it. I like running the ball and guarding people. I’m looking forward to seeing how far we can go. We’re trying to go undefeated and get a sectional title.”

In last week’s game against Corydon, Stuckwisch ran the ball five times for 41 yards. He also was quarterback Hayden Kinsler’s favorite target, pulling in five catches for 42 yards.

The speed on the football field translates to the track and field season.

This spring, Stuckwisch will run the 100, 4×400 and 4×100 relays. He said he may run some of the mid-distance sprints, too.

“I’m fast, so that’s why I like the 100,” Stuckwisch said. “In the 4×4, I can run the mid-distance pretty well. It is a pretty easy race.”

This past spring, Stuckwisch was named the Braves’ most outstanding sprinter. Last season, Stuckwisch was on the Braves’ 4×400 relay team that qualified for regional.

“I like being with my friends in track,” he said. “I’ve always liked running.”

Stuckwisch will be one of a few seniors to both play on the Braves’ new turf field and also run on the new track.

Outside of sports, Stuckwisch said he shows cows and works with his father, Eric.

Stuckwisch said he has enjoyed attending BCHS.

“I like the small community,” he said. “You get to hang out with your friends a lot. You pretty much know everybody.”
