A Brownstown man is recovering from injuries from two gunshot wounds to his legs sustained Saturday afternoon, police report.

Herman C. Eldridge, 62, was taken to a hospital in Indianapolis after police were called to a residence at Hillview Trailer Court at 3:40 p.m., Police Chief Tom Hanner said.

His condition was not available, but police described the injuries as “serious” in a news release.

Hanner declined to comment on additional details of the incident, but said police believe there is no threat to the community.

“All of the incident has been contained to the house,” he said.

No arrests have been made, and Hanner declined to comment on whether the shots were self-inflicted or from a shooter.

Brownstown Lt. Joe Kelly investigated the incident and was assisted by Jackson County EMS, Brownstown Fire Department, Jackson County Detective Bob Lucas and county officers J.L. McElfresh and Clint Burcham.
