Step back in time and visit the Jackson County History Center this weekend.

The third annual Jackson County Heritage Days runs Friday through Sunday at the center, 105 N. Sugar St., Brownstown.

All of the buildings on the campus will be open to tour, and people will have a chance to win prizes by completing a scavenger hunt.

Food, craft vendors, musical entertainment and a glamper show will be available all three days, too.

“This is the best-kept secret in Jackson County,” volunteer Gloria Cross said of the history center.

“Anybody that does visit it is amazed at our artifacts that we have, at our knowledgeable people that we have,” volunteer Margo Brewer said.

“Jackson County has a lot of rich heritage, and it’s just something that everybody should come see in southern Indiana,” volunteer Dorothy Richards said.

Heritage Days is a good time for families to get together at the center and share memories, Brewer said.

The scavenger hunt is new to the event.

“They are going to have a list with a little bit of information,” Cross said. “They are going to have to go in the buildings, and they will know what building it is in, but they will have to find it.”

Once their paper is filled out, participants will turn it in at the gift shop in the Ball Museum to receive a prize.

It’s open to all ages.

“They can work as a team, and families can do it together,” Brewer said.

The buildings will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. That includes the Ball Museum, genealogy library, Frederick Keach Heller Memorial Museum and livery barn. People also can tour a circus wagon and a Works Progress Administration wagon and the John Ketcham Pioneer Village, which features a string fort, a trading post, a meetinghouse and a log cabin.

Meals, including ham and beans and cornbread or a pork burger with slaw and dessert, will be available for purchase from 11 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Craft vendors will be onsite, too. Booth rental is $25. Electricity is available for an extra $10 (110 electric) or $20 (220 electric). Setup can be done from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday or 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, and breakdown can be done after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Also, the Brownstown Central High School DECA Club plans to do a cake walk from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.

The glamper show with vintage campers is another new feature of the event. There is no registration fee, but a freewill donation will be accepted for electric.

Music will take place at the Heritage Park pavilion just west of the history center. The lineup consists of Forrest Turner (6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday), U4ia Band (7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday), TOG Band (4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday), Lonesome Crow (6 to 7:15 p.m. Saturday) and James Dupré (7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday).
