Rain postpones events

Multiple events were postponed over the weekend due to rain and lightning.

Friday night, Trinity Lutheran’s football game at Indianapolis Shortridge was called off.

Events postponed on Saturday included: Seymour boys tennis at Shelbyville Invitational, Trinity Lutheran boys tennis at conference tournament, Seymour boys soccer at Oldenburg Academy, and Brownstown Central girls golf at Mid-Southern Conference (Seymour).

The MSC golf will now take place on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Shadowood Golf Course. Instead of an 18-holes tournament, the teams will play nine.

Owls flex in tourney

CONNERSVILLE — Seymour High School swept the competition at the Connersville Invitational on Saturday.

The Owls (11-9) defeated Pike 25-15, 25-10, Connersville 25-15, 25-20, Rising Sun 25-9, 25-20.

Jessica Blevins led the Owls with 25 total kills while Chloe Criswell had 13 and Abby Schmidt totaled 10.

The Owls finished with 31 total aces as a team.

Seymour will host Hauser tonight.

Cougars go 3-0 in invite

BEDFORD — Trinity Lutheran didn’t drop a set in three victories at the Bedford North Lawrence Invitational on Saturday.

The Cougars (12-8) beat New Albany 25-13, 26-24, Terre Haute South 25-9, 25-17 and Parke Heritage 25-20, 25-21 on the morning.

Hannah Sabotin went 48-for-51 (29 kills) on hits, Abby Schult finished 31-for-35 (17 kills) and Syndey Jaynes went 29-for-33 (14 kills) on the Cougars’ attack.

Bailey Reynolds had 59 total assists and Elly Carter served up seven aces. Kamzi Gross had 26 digs, Sabotin had 19 and Savannah Harweger totaled 18.

Trinity goes to Madison tonight.

Owls, Braves, Cougars run in the rain

NASHVILLE — The Brown County Eagle Classic resembled more of a mud run than a cross-country race on Saturday morning.

Rain drenched the course before the runners tore it up with their spikes.

Three races, with some of the top teams from Indiana, were held at Eagle Park in Nashville: elite, varsity and freshman/sophomore (boys).

The elite and freshman/sophomore races were scored as one race while the varsity races were broken up by small/large school in the final standings.

Seymour’s girls finished 11th of 15 teams with with 285 points. Pike were the champions with 66 points followed by Bloomington North (87) and Carmel (107), Columbus North (121) and Bloomington South (128).

Edgewood’s Annalyssa Crain was the overall winner in 18-minutes, 38-seconds.

Ashton Chase ran a 20:26 for 19th place to lead Seymour. Makenna Sunbury (42nd, 21:11), Lillie Sunbury (59th, 21:42), Grace Rennekamp (71st, 22:03) and Samanatha Jacobi (94th, 23:44) followed.

In the girls’ small school varsity race, Brownstown Central finished fifth of 12 with 140 points. Oak Hill (38), Presentation Academy (70), Tell City (108) and Indian Creek (124) finished ahead of the Braves.

Perry Central’s Jaelynn Etienne was the winner in 21:28.

Kaelyn Johnson paced the Braves by placing fourth in 22:28. Shauna Drake (27th, 24:46), Grace Garland (33rd, 25:06), Emma Winks (37th, 25:36) and Claire Poulton (39th, 26:02) rounded out the BC scoring five.

Trinity Lutheran’s Sadie Nay finished 76th in 29:36.2 and Abby Hildreth was 88th in 31:25.

Seymour’s boys ran in the big school varsity race and Brownstown Central and Trinity Lutheran were a part of the small school race.

SHS scored 333 points to place 14th of 24. Warren Central (80) were the overall winners with Silver Creek (120) and Jasper (131) finishing the top three.

Terre Haute South’s Cael Light was individual winner in 17:51.

Luke Plumer led Seymour with a strong fourth place finish in 18:36. Luke Hauersperger (51st, 20:39), Luke Bane (66th, 20:58), Michael Hodge (91st, 21:43) and Bryce Hatton (121st, 23:52) all scored for the Owls.

Brownstown was 11th of 14 in its race by scoring 228 points. Oak Hill won with 39 points, Barr-Reeve was second at 115 and Forest Park took third at 147.

Forest Park’s Spenser Wolf (18:01) won the race.

Trey Hackman (30th, 20:42), Mason Kellogg (43rd, 21:16), Clayton Barger (46th, 21:28), Nathan Koch (51st, 21:40) and Cameron Day (58th, 22:13) were the Braves’ scoring five.

Trinity Lutheran’s A.J. Goecker finished 108th overall in 19 minutes flat, Jordan Peters 108th in 26:17 and Jacob Sabotin placed one spot behind Peters in 26:18.

The boys’ elite race was won by Christian Academy’s Caleb Futter in 16:14.9.

In team scoring, the top three teams were Bloomington South (58), Carmel (60) and Franklin Community (106).
