Museum receives World War II-era bicycle

The Freeman Army Airfield Museum recently received a donation of a fully restored 1943 Huffman U.S. Army bicycle from James R. Bowman of Indianapolis.

The bicycle is painted in Army colors and was restored as a tribute to the men and women who served and trained at Freeman Field and then fought for our freedoms during World War II, according to a news release from museum curator Larry Bothe.

Bowman restores antique bicycles as a hobby, and while this is a collector’s item he could sell, he wanted to donate it to the museum because he really likes Freeman Field’s war history, Bothe said.

The handicapped-accessible museum at 1035 A Ave., Seymour, is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and by appointment.

For information, contact Bothe at 812-521-7400.
