Trinity girls soccer falls to Franklin Community at home

Mollie Hill was too much for the Trinity Lutheran girls soccer team to handle Thursday night.

Hill, a freshman, scored three goals between 29:22 and the 10-minute mark of the second half to lead Franklin to a 5-2 win over the Cougars.

“She’s a really good player,” Cougars coach Jeff Nolting said. “She’s strong in the middle, and a lot of the balls were going through her. She really controlled the middle on us. We didn’t have an answer for her shot. That third goal, she was 30 yards out, and that was a solid kick.”

It was a high arching kick that went over Cougar goalie Genesis Munoz’s arms.

“They wore us down in the second half, but we kept playing hard to the end. They’re a big school, got a lot of players and I saw a lot of things that we were doing right,” Nolting said.

The Cubs held a 2-0 lead after 31 minutes of action before the Cougars’ offense came to life to tie the match.

Flossie Cooper advanced the ball to Sidney Hoene, who scored with 5:08 left in the first half to cut Franklin’s lead to 2-1.

Cooper assisted Kailene Cockerham on a goal to tie the match at 2 with 15 seconds left in the first half.

“We played a good first half,” Nolting said.

Franklin outshot Trinity 23-8.

Munoz made 17 saves in goal.

“She played a good game. That’s one of her top games in number of saves,” Nolting said.

“I’m proud of their effort. I’m proud of how they played. Not knowing Franklin, not knowing what kind of team they are, I think we did all right.”

The Cougars (4-7) will travel to Southwestern (Hanover) on Monday.
