Three-week-long asphalt paving to begin on Interstate 65

Surface paving operations on Interstate 65 in Bartholomew and Jackson counties will begin Sunday night, weather permitting.

Motorists should expect to encounter E&B Paving crews and equipment in single lanes on I-65 between mile-marker 64.5 near the Walesboro exit and State Road 46 ramps at Columbus during overnight hours for three weeks.

Indiana Department of Transportation officials say asphalt paving will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. every night Sunday through Oct. 6. That will begin in the northbound left lane and then shift to the southbound left lane, northbound right lane, southbound right lane and northbound and southbound shoulders.

Between U.S. 50 in Seymour and State Road 58 in Walesboro, work is ongoing to completely reconstruct and reconfigure I-65 as a six-lane concrete roadway. Twenty-seven bridges are being reworked along the entire 17-mile-long project site from mile-marker 50 to mile-marker 67.

This year’s operations focus on building the north third phase of project limits and bridges at the White River.
