Owls earn sectional victory

FLOYDS KNOBS — Seymour kept its season alive with a 5-0 win over Bedford North Lawrence on Tuesday at the Floyd Central Sectional.

The Owls led 2-0 at the half, on goals by Aidan Hiester and Bailey Lykins, before opening it up in the final 40 minutes.

Hiester had two more goals in the second half to secure a hat-trick, and Alyssa Perry also added a score for SHS. Perry had two assists while Mia Schrader and Eliza Cash totaled one each.

In goal, Kate Snook had three saves for the Owls

"They played very very well," Seymour coach Greg Musser said. "It was inspired soccer. There was lots of movement and combination passing.

There are lots of positives to build off of. I thought the girls finally looked like the team we thought they could be from start to finish."

Seymour will face Jennings County in Thursday’s semifinals. The Panthers defeated New Albany in overtime on Tuesday. In the regular season, the Owls posted a 4-1 win over the Panthers.

Cougars win postseason opener

CLARKSVILLE — Trinity Lutheran built a 3-0 lead by halftime and held on for a 3-2 Providence Sectional win over Salem on Tuesday.

Maddie Bell, Flossie Cooper and Sidney Hoene each scored for the Cougars in the opening 40 minutes.

Trinity outshot Salem 10-8 and Cougars keeper Genesis Munoz totaled five saves.

Trinity (5-8) will play Christian Academy of Indiana in the semifinals on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

Braves sweep on senior night, clinch share of MSC

BROWNSTOWN — Brownstown Central stayed perfect in Mid-Southern Conference play with a 25-7, 25-7, 25-9 victory over North Harrison on Tuesday.

Keeli Darlage led the Braves with 16 kills, Addie Wilkerson had nine and Kendra McCory totaled eight. BCHS had 41 total kills as a team.

Serving, Brooklyn Snodgrass made all 22 of her attempts with five aces. The Braves combined for 14 aces.

The win ensured the Braves take at least a share of the MSC title by the season’s end. Silver Creek finished MSC competition at 8-1.

The Braves (24-4, 8-0 MSC) will travel to Salem on Thursday.

Owls earn HHC win

BEDFORD — Seymour defeated Bedford North Lawrence 25-21, 25-17, 25-20 to conclude Hoosier Hills Conference play on Tuesday.

Jessica Blevins led the Owls with 14 kills, Carlee Robinson had three aces and Makenna Fee totaled 22 assists.

Hayley Harpe and Blevins each finished with 11 digs for the Owls.

By beating the Stars, the Owls (18-13) finished 5-2 in HHC play, tying for second with Columbus East.  Floyd Central entered Tuesday at 6-0 in the HHC.

Seymour goes to Bloomington South Thursday.

Cougars extend streak

SELLERSBURG — Trinity Lutheran boosted its winning streak to 14 matches with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-15 win at Rock Creek Academy on Tuesday.

Hannah Sabotin led the Cougars with 13 kills while Abby Schult and Sydney Jaynes each had nine.

Ruthie Bingham had four aces, Savannah Harweger notched 16 digs and Bailey Reynolds recorded 32 assists for the Cougars.

The Cougars have also won 36 consecutive sets.

Trinity (22-8) will play at the Edinburgh Invitational on Saturday.
