Turnout steady so far

Turnout in Jackson County has been steady through the morning and into early afternoon, according to one Jackson County official.

Clerk Amanda Lowery also said there were no voting issues to report.

“All is good,” she said. “There are steady lines and turnout seems to be good.”

Turnout at Redding East precinct was 254 at 11:15 a.m. That precinct has 1,303 registered voters.

Election workers said lines formed early after the polling site opened.

Jackson 3 North and Jackson 5 East had cast 404 combined at the Seymour American Legion Post 89. Those precincts have 2,056 registered voters.

By 12:50 p.m. there were 201 ballots cast by voters from Jackson 2 East and Jackson 2 West at The Point church.

Those two precincts have 1,746 registered voters.

Jackson 4 South and Jackson 3 South combined for 375 votes at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. There are 1,975 registered voters between the two.

Jackson 4 North had a turnout of 360 of 1,453 registered voters by 1:12 p.m. at Seymour First Baptist Church.

The church also is the polling location for Jackson 5 North, which had 334 ballots cast from 1,270 registered voters.

The turnout comes on the heels of a record-setting turnout for early voting where 4,577 cast ballots ahead of today’s election. The majority of those – 3,645 – voted at early voting locations in Brownstown and Seymour.

That could be an indication of a larger turnout than the 2014 midterm election, which showed a 36 percent turnout. In that election, 10,725 Jackson County voters cast ballots.
