Trinity senior has excelled in multiple sports

Maddie Bell hasn’t had much free time after school during her time at Trinity Lutheran High School.

She has been a three-sport athletes throughout, playing soccer and basketball both for four years. She is a three-year softball player, ran track as a freshman and may return to it in the spring.

“I’ll remember all the fun times I’ve had in sports and memories like that,” Bell said.

Bell has taken over the point guard position for the Cougars this winter. Her high-point game this season was 10 points against Edinburgh.

She said she enjoys playing transition ball and playing with pace.

She said teamwork will be important to have a winning season.

“We all have to work together as a team, and we’ve got to practice really hard so we’ll play hard in games,” Bell said.

Soccer was new to her freshman year at Trinity. She is one of a few girls who helped build the program.

“I’m glad I played. It was a fun experience,” Bell said.

Last fall, Bell split her time between midfield and forward.

“I tried to score or passed to the open person to score,” Bell said. “I just liked being part of the team, and we always had really fun practice and rides to the games. We just made a lot of memories.”

She scored six goals and had two assists. In her career, she finished with 22 goals and seven assists.

Last spring in softball, she played a lot of center field for the Cougars.

“Sometimes, I played second base,” she said. “I like to play wherever I can help the team. Communication is very important.”

Bell, who bats left-handed, used her speed to her advantage.

“Normally, I bunted because I haven’t played much,” Bell said. “Toward the end of the season, I got better at letting pitches go by. I like the practices because I actually get to get better, and it’s fun talking to all my teammates and working.”

She ran both hurdles and the 400 and 1,600 relays her freshman year.

“I like the hurdles a lot,” Bell said. “I was anchor my freshman year for the 400 relay, but it really doesn’t matter to me where I run.”

Bell said the main reason she chose to attend Trinity is because her older sister, Jackie, went to school there.

“I like the small school and smaller classes and making friends. I’ve had a lot of fun here,” Bell said.
