The Brownstown Central Community School Corp. Students of the Month for November were presented certificates during Monday night’s board of trustees meeting at the superintendent’s office.

Those recognized were Cole DeWeese, a fifth grader at the elementary school; Jackson Hartley, an eighth-grader at the middle school; and Ethan Wischmeier, a senior at the high school.

Principal Chrystal Street said DeWeese was selected by his teacher, Jamie Temple, who wrote in her nomination that Cole always participates in class discussion and always helps others when they are struggling with a math concept.

“He has a willingness to want to learn and understand more than just what I teach him,” Temple wrote. “I’m so proud of Cole I can’t wait to watch him continue to grow this year.”

Doug McClure, principal at the middle school, said Hartley was nominated by the eighth-grade teachers.

He said they wrote that Jackson is absolutely a model student and a teacher’s pleasure to have in the classroom.

“He is a responsible student with tremendous work ethic, settling for nothing less than his best effort,” McClure said while reading the nomination.

“His infectious style, personality and positive attitude makes his peers want to be around him if for nothing else to help brighten their own day,” he said. “Jackson has been an influential member of the BCMS Tribal Council for three years.”

He is an amazing example for the younger middle school students, takes the initiative in leading committee work and regularly volunteers to do more than is asked or required. Because of Jackson’s responsibility and trustworthiness, he has been a teacher’s assistant in the main office for the past two years, and was selected for participation in the YoJack program. He regularly runs errands for teachers and office staff and his positive contributions extend to his peers in providing them with academic assistance when asked.”

High school Principal Joe Sheffer said Wischmeier was selected as math Student of the Month by math teachers.

“Here’s what the math department had to say about you,” Sheffer told Wischmeier before his nomination.

“Ethan is one of the most focused, hardworking and exemplary students at BCHS,” Sheffer said. “He has a focus and drive seldom seen among high school students. He is extremely attentive in class, always asking questions for clarification and always participating and leading groups of discussion.”

Ethan maintains his focus and sets extremely high goals for himself. Not many students his age have such a clearly define purpose in life. He is not only focused on his goals and objectives in life but also embodies a relentless determination to outwork and to outperform everyone around him. Ethan has the perseverance and can-do attitude to get the job done and to get it done in the highess quality. You will not meet a more caring and kind person.”
