Update, 7:49 p.m.:

Police have identified a Seymour woman who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday evening.

Wanda Huber, 68, was pronounced dead at her home at 1705 S. Walnut St. on the city’s far south side.

Police said Huber shot her 16-year-old grandson, who lived with her, one time before turning the gun on herself.

Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott said the youth was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville with critical injuries. He declined to say where the boy’s injuries were.

Police recovered a handgun owned by Huber at the scene, but did not specify the caliber of the weapon.

Abbott said police continue to investigate the shooting.

“As far as the details of why and how and everything, that is still being investigated,” he said.

Abbott did not know whether police had been called to the residence in the past for any issues.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
