Scholarships available to those studying criminal justice

Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer and Jennings County Sheriff Kenny Freeman recently announced the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association will again be awarding college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies.

There will be approximately 40 $750 scholarships awarded to qualifying students throughout the state.

To qualify for one of these scholarships, the applicant must be an Indiana resident, a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association, attend an Indiana college or university, major in a law enforcement field and enroll as a full-time student (12 hours).

If you do not meet the membership requirement, an application for membership is attached to the applications and may be completed and returned with the scholarship application.

Applications are available from high school counselors or the sheriff’s departments. The scholarship application also can be downloaded from the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association website, indianasheriffs.org.

The deadline is April 1.
