Basketball players earn academic honors

The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association released its 2018-19 Academic All-State selections Tuesday.

Seventy-seven Indiana high school seniors — 39 boys and 37 girls — were chosen as first-team and 382 additional players were cited as honorable mention.

Brownstown Central’s Claire Poulton and Tayler Garland, Trinity Lutheran’s Savannah Harweger and Crothersville’s Piper Hensley all made honorable mention for the girls.

On the boys’ side, Trinity’s A.J. Goecker received honorable mention status.

Hackman named RSC golfer of the week

Indiana University East senior Lance Hackman, a Brownstown Central grad, was recently named the River State Conference’s Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Hackman shot a 2-over 74 at the Savannah State Spring Invite over spring break. That placed him sixth of 46 golfers in a field that had four of the six teams coming from NCAA Division I. The Red Wolves placed fourth as a team.
