Brownstown Academic Super Bowl team makes history

The Brownstown Central Middle School Academic Super Bowl team competed in Class 3 at the area competition April 27 at Batchelor Middle School in Bloomington.

The topic of the competition was “The Fertile Crescent.” The English, math, science, social studies and interdisciplinary teams answered 25 questions in each round. The interdisciplinary round consists of questions from the four subjects.

Brownstown’s English team of Madison Edwards, Kylor McCulley and Raegan Ratliff placed first. When the scores from competitions taking place around the state were submitted, the team was named Class 3 state champion, making it the school’s first state champion in an Academic Super Bowl competition. They are coached by Erin Gommel and Karen Ault.

The math team of Edwards, Bryce Reaser, Eli Reynolds and Holden Tovey earned honors by finishing first in the area competition and being named a Class 3 top 10 winner by finishing in sixth place in the state. Their coach is Andrea Edwards.

Also at the area competition, the interdisciplinary team of Edwards, Ratliff, Reaser, Reynolds, Tovey, Eli Lane and Quincy Weddell also finished first, and the science team of Reaser, Landon Hehman and Tovey placed second. Ault also coached the science team.
