Brownstown announces meal prices, book rental for new school year

Preparations for the 2019-20 school year already are underway for Brownstown Central Community School Corp.

During a recent meeting, the board of trustees unanimously approved lunch and breakfast prices, textbook rental and bus fuel and supply bids.

The meal prices were approved to meet federal guidelines. The lunch charge will increase 10 cents at each building, making the price at the high school $2.80, middle school $2.65 and elementary school $2.50. Adult lunch price is $3.45. All breakfast prices increased 5 cents, making the adult breakfast $1.80 and student breakfast $1.30.

Textbook rental remains 25% of the purchase costs and 15% of the purchase cost if the books have been used longer than six years for the middle school and high school. Preschool will be $42, kindergarten $129, first grade $107, second grade $89, third grade $97, third grade high ability $103, fourth grade $53, fourth grade high ability $66, fifth grade $101 and fifth grade high ability $109.

The bus fuel and supply bids are for July 1 of this year through June 30, 2020. Circle K and Jackson-Jennings Co-op bid on the bus fuel. Circle K was low bidder at $2.151 for unleaded and $2.252 for diesel, and Jackson-Jennings Co-op had a price of $2.1501 for unleaded and $2.3307 for diesel.

Morrison Auto Tech was the only bidder for service and supplies with a bid of $4,902.50 for 33 filters and oil changes and $4,455 for safety inspection for 33 buses, which includes kingpin and brake inspections.
