An Art Alliance Brown County exhibit is open now through Aug. 10 at Southern Indiana Center for the Arts, 2001 N. Ewing St., Seymour.

The arts center is open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

A special exhibit opening reception will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today. Artists and SICA board members will be present to answer questions, provide tours and assist with any potential art sales.

The AABC’s mission is to network, educate, advertise and encourage one another for the benefit of the individual, the community and the visiting public of Brown County.

The arts have a long history in Brown County dating back to the early 1900s when artists gathered there to paint the scenic hills. Equally inspired by the area’s beauty, today’s artists find more freedom in both expression and the mediums they use.

What both arts groups share is their motivation to grow as artists and to promote the arts locally, regionally and nationally.

“SICA seeks collaboration with regional organizations such as AABC to showcase a variety of art in our galleries,” SICA Executive Director Sean Hildreth said. “To have talented artists from the region display their work in our space is a great way to share the beauty of Indiana with a new audience.”

Artists were invited to display all mediums, including paintings, photographs, 3-D art, pottery and jewelry. The show is not juried. Some artwork may be for sale. Others may be showing work only. Sales will be through the staff and volunteers at SICA and will benefit the artist and the center.

SICA provides an environment for students, artists and patrons of all ages to study, practice and appreciate the arts. Together with community leaders, corporations, members and individuals, the center is working toward the goal of providing the best resources for promoting artistic achievement and cultural enrichment.
