Seymour police arrested a 30-year-old Jennings County man after multiple controlled purchases of heroin over the course of six months, authorities report.

Kyle Deon Powell of North Vernon faces three preliminary Level 5 felony charges of dealing heroin following his arrest Friday.

Police made multiple controlled purchases of heroin since late last year, Detective Adam Surface said.

A citizen called to report a man asleep in a vehicle at Laurel and Broadway streets around 10:45 a.m. Friday. When police arrived, they woke him up and saw officers had made controlled purchases.

"He woke right up and started talking with them and did not need medical attention," Surface said.

He said police will continue to investigate Powell’s activity, and more arrests are expected.

It’s at least the sixth such arrest this year where Seymour police have purchased drugs and arrested people on dealing charges. It’s the third such arrest recently.

Powell was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 11:33 a.m. without bond.

A Level 5 felony is punishable between one and six years if convicted. The advisory sentence is three years.
