Owls finish top three at Hoosier Hills meet

It was perfect running weather for the Seymour Owls at the 2019 Hoosier Hills Conference meet at Hanover College.

Led by Makenna Sunbury, the Seymour girls cross country team took second overall with a score of 74 points and average time of 21 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunbury’s time of 19:46 was good enough to net her sixth in the individual race, coming in behind Floyd Central’s top-five runners.

The Highlanders won the team race with all seven of their runners placing inside the top 10.

Grace Rennekamp and Kinsley Folsom finished 11th and 12th, respectively, for the Owls with just two seconds separating their times. Rennekamp came in at 20:31 while Folsom finished at 20:33.

Lizzy Hougland finished 20th at 21:35 while Grace Lewis rounded out the varsity scoring times in 34th at 23:13. 

Lara Skaggs and Kirby Hill finished 46th and 47th at 24:33 and 24:34, respectively. 

On the boys’ side, the Owls took third overall with a team score of 87 and average finish of 17:10.

Ethan Dippold was the top man for Seymour with a time of 16:29 for sixth place with Luke Plummer coming in 11th at 16:48.

Michael Proffer and Spanky Kleber were 22nd and 25th for the Owls with times of 17:18 and 17:28, respectively. Connor Harriss rounded out the scoring times for Seymour with a 31st-place finish of 17:56.

Brycen Baugh and Jude Bane were 35th and 39th overall with times of 18:03 and 18:07, respectively. 

Over at Hardy Lake, the Brownstown Central boys cross country team snagged fourth place in the Mid-Southern Conference with a team score of 106.

Nathan Koch paced the Braves with a time of 17:55 for 11th place with Mason Kellogg coming in 17th place at 18:17.

Clayton Barger had a top-25 finish for BC with his 24th-place time of 18:46 while Andrew Wheeles came in 26th at 18:50. Trey Hackman rounded out the scoring with his 32nd-place time of 19:03. 

Cameron Day and and Dylan Wischmeier finished 35th and and 48th, respectively, with times of 19:19 and 21:18.

With a team score of 124 points, the BC girls earned fifth place in the MSC behind an 11th-place finish from Jazzlyn Yeadon. 

She roared in at 22:39 while Grace Garland had a time of 23:23 for 21st place.

Emma Winks and Kylee Wischmeier finished 27th and 28th for Brownstown Central with times of 24:31 and 24:38, respectively. 

Zoe Fountain finished up the varsity scoring with her 37th-place time of 25:17.

Karcyn Trubelood finished 44th at 26:43 and Abbie Reynolds was 47th at 27:18 to round out the runners for the Braves.

In Borden, Crothersville sophomore Kaylyn Holman won the individual girls’ title with a time of 19:57. 

She finished nearly a minute and a half ahead of the runner-up finisher from Borden. 

David Rose was the top finisher for the Tigers in the boys’ race, coming in fourth at 16:47.
