Commissioners end burn ban in county

The burn ban for Jackson County was lifted Thursday afternoon.

Jackson County Commissioner Drew Markel shared the announcement on Facebook.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding during this ban,” he wrote. “Please continue to use caution while burning.”

The burn ban initially was put in place Sept. 24 because of the risk of widespread fire hazards related to ongoing drought conditions.

Since Sept. 1, just 0.18 inches of rain had fallen in the Brownstown area, according to the Brownstown Central High School weather station.

Recent rain allowed commissioners to end the ban.
