The Cougars outscored the Tigers 10-4 in the second overtime to post a 73-67 senior night win.

Tyler Goecker hit 5 of 6 free throws in the second overtime to seal the win for Trinity.

Goecker made a layup with 10 seconds remaining in the first overtime to force the game into another 4-minute period.

Trinity made 8 of 10 free throws in the last overtime.

Josh Thomas made a basket and two free throws for Crothersville’s scoring in the last overtime.

Both teams had a chance to win at the end of regulation.

Goecker was only able to make 1 of 2 free throws, while Jayden Walls missed a layup at the buzzer for the Tigers.

“I give a lot of credit to Crothersville,” Trinity Lutheran coach Michael McBride said. “They came out and played hard and I give our guys a lot of credit. It was kind of a game of runs.”

Crothersville’s biggest lead in the first half was seven points and Trinity’s biggest lead was six points.

The Tigers, behind the five points made by Cable Spall and a 3-pointer from Thomas, jumped on top 10-3 at the 2:30-mark of the first quarter.

The Cougars got hot when Goecker, Mitchell Hackman and Jack Marksberry made 3-pointers to help the Cougars move on top 14-13 at the end of the first period.

Walls’ 3-pointer put the visitors on top 20-16 early in the second period before Trinity went on a 12-2 run to lead 28-22. Marksberry had seven points and Jacob Sabotin had a basket and four rebounds in the second period as Trinity led 33-28 at the half.

The Tigers started strong in the third quarter by going on an 11-2 run to take a 39-35 lead. Walls had the hot hand with two baskets and two free throws while Hackman was on fire for Trinity with three baskets and two free throws.

Marksberry topped the Cougars with 20 points, Goecker added 16, Hackman made 15, Josh Rowe made eight, Sabotin added seven, Lawson Woods added four, and Hudson Norton scored three.

Thomas was high scorer for Crothersville with 20, Spall had 19, Ethan Shirley added 10, Carson Farmer and Walls scored eight each, and Quinten Keasler added two.

“We missed a couple free throws in overtime that hurt us,” Crothersville coach Greg Kilgore said.

Kilgore said another difference in the game was free throws attempted as the home team shot 28 and the Tigers attempted just 11.

Kilgore said he was pleased with Spall’s effort in the fourth quarter as he scored nine points and had three rebounds during that time.

The win puts Trinity Lutheran at .500 for the season and the winningest team in Jackson County with nine wins.

“It feels to be good to be 500,” McBride said.

The Cougars will host Franklin Thursday night.

Crothersville (8-6) will travel to Columbus Christian tonight for a girl-boy doubleheader.

Trinity won the junior varsity 68-41. Caleb Williams scored 15, Logan Brown scored 14, Evan Hunt made 12, Chase Sawyer scored 11, Sage Broughton added six, Micah Baumgartel added five, Levi Froedge made three, and Kade Hill scored two.
