Commissioners, council to meet at courthouse

The Jackson County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. today at the courthouse, 111 S. Main St., Brownstown.

Agenda items include opening for price proposals for the new county work release center on two lots in the 300 block of Dupont Drive in Seymour, considering a lease agreement for the community corrections office and a contract for a peer recovery specialist, a presentation on a Leadership Jackson County project about the Shieldstown Covered Bridge and use of the the courthouse lawn for a Constitution reading event Saturday.

The Jackson County Council is set to meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the courthouse. 

Agenda items for that meeting include discussion about a request for a tax abatement for a 21,000-square-foot Family Medical Partners building under construction in the 1900 block of North Ewing Street in Seymour and a request for funds for the Jackson County Dog Shelter.

Both meetings are open to the public and press.
