A Floyd County resident who recently attended the Class 4A boys basketball sectional at Seymour High School has tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Floyd County Health Department announced Sunday afternoon.

County Health Officer Dr. Tom Harris made the announcement before media assembled at the Pine View Government Center, according to The News and Tribune of Jeffersonville.

The patient, identified as an adult, was admitted to Baptist Health Floyd on March 13, and the positive test result was confirmed around 2 p.m. Sunday. Harris declined to give the age or where the person lives but said they attended the March 7 sectional game in Seymour.

Lin Montgomery with the Jackson County Health Department said the Floyd County Health Department had notified her of the positive case.

Within the last week, the patient was identified to have also been at Caesars Casino of Southern Indiana in Elizabeth from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 to 29 and March 3 through 7.

The person also had attended the 11:30 a.m. service March 8 at Northside Christian Church, a color guard competition March 7 at Floyd Central High School and a high school wrestling match March 1 at Floyd Central High School.

If you were present there or the Seymour sectional game and have developed fever, cough, weakness and diarrhea, self-quarantine and contact your primary care provider for additional guidance.

If you do not have a primary care physician, call the Indiana State Department of Health
at 317-233-7125 or after hours at 317-233-1325.

Montgomery said investigations will need to be completed to determine who might have been exposed to the person.

The patient is currently in isolation, and all recommended precautions are being taken to protect the patient and staff, according to a statement Baptist Health Floyd. The medical team is evaluating and monitoring the progress of this patient in close collaboration with local and state health officials.

Earlier Sunday, the Indiana State Department of Health had reported four new presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 involving residents of Hamilton and Marion counties. The addition of the Floyd County case brings to 20 the number of Hoosiers diagnosed in a dozen counties.

Information is available on the ISDH’s online dashboard at in.gov/coronavirus. The dashboard is updated daily at 10 a.m. Cases are listed by county of residence.
