Behind curtain number three

Brandy Drummond can finally share her good news.

Anyone who watched Wednesday’s episode of ‘Let’s Make A Deal’ knows that she is a big winner.

Drummond, who lives in Seymour and works at Elwood Staffing, won $12,050 in prizes when she was on the show Sept. 20, 2019.

Her appearance on the show aired Wednesday on CBS.

Those prizes included a six-night stay for two at The Sands at Grace Bay, luxury Caribbean resort on world-famous Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, British West Indies, with round trip airfare.

The prize includes a $300 gift certificate for Hemingway’s Restaurant at the resort, a snorkel excursion, including a powered catamaran ride, and a visit to an uninhabited island to relax on the white sand beach, served by staff.

Drummond, was watching the show from home, with her husband and son. She said she received congratulatory messages all day long, after the show was on.

"Some of my friends were messaging me, asking how they could see the show because they didn’t have a DVR," Drummond said.

"I told them they could watch it on the website the next day, or after it’s on they could Google it or watch it on YouTube by the episode."

During the episode, Drummond was the sixth contestant of the day and Brady called her out of the audience by pointing to her and saying, "In the yellow dress, the princess."

"Wayne called me out of the audience, and as I was walking through and slapping people’s hands, he said he thought I was Princess Peach," Drummond said.

"When I got down to the front, he asked if that’s who I was supposed to be. I didn’t know who Princess Peach was, so I told him I’d be whatever princess he wanted me to be."

She said she hugged Wayne Brady three times while they were there and they took out the part where she said her last name and where she lives.

"I was hoping they’d take that out, so that’s alright," Drummond said. "It wasn’t just me, but they cut out several other people’s comments too."

Brady asked her if she’d ever done a newscast, and she said no. Then he said, "Well you’re going to start now," and handed her a card to read.

"There is an emergency behind curtain number two, but it’s not a bad emergency, it’s a good one," Brady said. "At curtain two we have two of our top TV reporters; him and her."

Brady was referring to Jonathan Mangum, the announcer for ‘Let’s Make a Deal’ and model Danielle Demski, who was stepping in for Tiffany Adams Coyne, the regular model.

Drummond, aka co-anchor, read the first card aloud, "What are eyewitnesses saying about the prize behind the curtain?"

Demski replied, "People are saying it’s really high."

Then Drummond read the second card, "Does the prize behind the curtain require a form of ID to be used?"

Mangum said, "Although it does not require a form of ID to use, it might require a form of ID to get to there."

"They were giving me clues about what was behind curtain two, but then Wayne gave me the choice to pick curtain three, that had no clues," Drummond said.

"So I chose curtain two, because the clues were I’d need a form of ID to get there and something really high, which I thought was probably a trip. It could’ve been a zonk with a tall ladder or something, though."

She chose wisely and won a three night stay at Beaver Creek Lodge, a luxury ski resort in Colorado, worth $5,857. Behind curtain three was a zonk.

Drummond then hugged Brady and went back to her seat, alongside her husband, Jason and their two friends, Kevin and Chanda Hackman, also from Seymour.

At the end of the show, contestants who won the prizes with the highest cash value could trade away their winnings to play for the Big Deal of the Day, a prize package behind one of three numbered doors.

"As other people were getting called down to play games and we could see what they were winning, our friend Kevin, was saying my prize was the next highest, from the lady who had won a car," Drummond said.

"The car is one of the highest prizes a contestant can win on the show, so he said he thought I’d probably get called down for the Big Deal of the day."

The lady dressed like one of the three little pigs, who had won a car, wanted to keep it, so Brady walked back to where Drummond was sitting to ask if she wanted to keep her Colorado trip or go for the Big Deal.

Drummond decided to give up her trip and go for it, so she stood and threw her arms up and answered, "Big Deal!"

"For the Deal of the Day, you are going to win something regardless and there are no zonks, there are just different prize levels behind each door," Drummond said.

"Wayne asked what number door I wanted and I went with door three and he asked why, so I said it was my birth month and my husband’s favorite number and I was just so excited."

Behind door two was a living room suit, worth $6,079 and behind door one was a car, which was the Big Deal, valued at $22,750, but I chose door three, which was the next best prize, value wise.

"Turks and Caicos is beautiful and I just can’t believe it and I’m just so excited," Drummond said. "This is not a trip I would take otherwise, so it’ll be a once in a lifetime trip."

The show restricts winners from telling anyone, so no one here besides Drummond, her husband and the Hackmans, who were also at the show, knew the results until the show aired Wednesday.

Since Drummond won, she cannot be on another game show for three years.

"I thought we’d have to pay a gift tax along with sales tax, but all we had to pay was the Indiana sales tax," she said. "Nobody gets their prizes until after the show airs, so they just called me and said I can take the trip early next year."

Keeping her winnings a secret until after the show aired this week, was really hard to do, she said.

"Me, Jason, Kevin and Chanda have all had to keep the secret since the show was taped last September," Drummond said. "All we could say is that we are going to be on ‘Let’s Make A Deal.’"

The game show is currently on hiatus and is scheduled to start filming again later this summer. Go online to on-camera-audiences.com/shows/Lets_Make_a_Deal# for information about the show and how to get tickets.
