Powerful hitting and accurate serving helped carry the Seymour volleyball team to a straight sets sweep of Madison Monday night as the team improved its record to 14-14 overall.

The Owls won 25-11, 25-16, 25-19.

Olivia Fish unleashed 15 kills and Lauren Knieriem added 12 kills to lead Seymour’s attack.

Sydney Montgomery scored with three aces and Paige Lawrence and Breanna Lawrence with two each.

Paige Lawrence compiled 21 assists and Kniriem collected 16 digs.

Brownstown volleyball outlasts Scottsburg

The Braves raised their season record to 15-9 Monday night by besting Scottsburg 25-9, 25-19, 16-25, 25-18.

Kendra McCory hit 12 kills to lead Brownstown and Jennifer Pence and Kelsey Wischmeier collected nine kills apiece.

In a tight battle, the Cougars dropped a difficult back-and-forth match against Floyd Central in Seymour Monday night.

The visitors won 24-26, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 15-13 in a match scheduled late to fill in lost contests due to the coronavirus.

Kennedy Hoffman led Trinity hitting with 18 kills and received major help from Sydney Jaynes with 13 kills and Bailey Tabeling with 12. Jaynes had five blocks at net and Tabeling and Bailey Reynolds each had two.

Hoffman contributed four service aces with Elly Carter and Kamzi Gross adding two apiece. Gross (32), Stella Kleffman (23) and Carter (19) excelled with defensive digs. Reynolds had 44 assists.

Seymour’s Brandon Hubbard and Andrew Levine will face Brownstown Central’s Reece Carlin and Griffin Stidam in the individual doubles tournament at Bloomington North tonight.

The regional team matches will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the individual singles and doubles matches will follow on the first court available.
