The third annual Home for the Holidays planned for Saturday in downtown Seymour has been canceled due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event presented by the Seymour Chamber of Commerce, the Seymour Park and Recreation Department, Seymour Oktoberfest and Seymour Main Street was to be held from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. It was to feature a parade of lights, a tree lighting and Santa at Crossroads Park, lunch with Christmas characters, a trackless train and Silly Safaris animals at Crossroads Park, craft and story times and the Festival of Trees.

Santa’s Holiday Tour is still planned. Santa will arrive on a Seymour Fire Department engine in different areas of the city from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 to 18. A map of the areas he will visit is available on the chamber’s Facebook page.

Santa’s arrival in each area will be announced by sirens and Christmas music. Everyone is being asked to not enter the streets when Santa approaches. He will have a treat for all who come outside to see him.

The tour is sponsored by the chamber, Schneck Medical Center, Seymour fire and police departments, Mann Bookkeeping and Tax Service and T-Mobile.
