A Seymour man faces seven charges related to an incident in which he intimidated a man and a woman with a shotgun inside their home Wednesday morning, police said.

According to court records, Christopher John Taskey, 43, was arrested and charged with a Level 4 felony of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon; a Level 5 felony of intimidation with a deadly weapon; and four Level 6 felonies: Two counts of pointing a firearm, possession of syringe and intimidation. He also faces a Class A misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement.

According to the incident report, Seymour Police Department Capt. John Watson responded to a call that a man was threatening a man and a woman with a shotgun inside their north side home at 8:13 a.m.

When Watson and Cpl. Jason Alberring were allowed into the home, they confronted Taskey and told him to leave.

At that point, Taskey turned around and started to walk to the other side of the house, police said.

Watson said he then pointed his firearm at Taskey out of fear that he might be retrieving a weapon.

Watson ordered Taskey to stop walking away and to come to him, and he complied and exited the home and was handcuffed by Cpl. Adam Surface, who also had arrived to assist.

Police said Taskey would not give a clear answer about the whereabouts of the gun when asked.

Sgt. Brian Moore and Cpl. Jason Wynn interviewed the man and woman, and they said Taskey had pointed a shotgun at them and threatened to kill them.

When asked about the whereabouts of the shotgun, the man retrieved a dissembled single-shot 12-gauge Stevens shotgun.

The man said the shotgun had broken apart when he threw it at the man and woman after threatening them.

Taskey was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday and was being held without bond Thursday.

A Level 4 felony is punishable by two to 12 years in jail upon conviction. The advisory sentence is six years.
