The Peoples Bank announces promotions

Wm. Mark Norman, president and chief executive officer of The Peoples Bank, recently announced the promotions of five employees throughout various departments at the bank.

“These individuals have shown hard work and dedication to both their job and community throughout their years employed with The Peoples Bank,” Norman said.

Julie Cornett, a third-generation banker, was promoted to senior vice president/chief financial officer, where she will take on the finance department at The Peoples Bank.

She grew up in Minnesota but now lives in North Vernon with her husband, Darlis. After graduating, she pursued a Bachelor of Accounting degree from the University of North Dakota.

She started her journey with The Peoples Bank in 1994 as an internal auditor and compliance officer. Throughout her career, she has moved up from assistant vice president and vice president to her current position.

In the past, Cornett has served as assistant treasurer and been a member of the finance committee at her church, First Baptist Church in North Vernon.

Brian Sommers continues to build his resume at The Peoples Bank, being promoted to senior vice president/chief lending officer.

He started at The Peoples Bank in 1989 as branch manager but quickly started moving up to assistant vice president, vice president/senior loan officer/security officer to his new position. While employed at The Peoples Bank, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in 2000.

Along with his duties at the bank, you can hear Sommers on the radio helping announce the Brownstown Central boys basketball games, and he also is involved with Fairview Cemetery.

He previously was president of the Brownstown Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Brownstown Town Council, a Driftwood Christian Church board member and a high school volleyball coach at Brownstown.

Bryan Stahl has taken on a new position at The Peoples Bank as senior vice president/chief operating officer.

He started in the IT department and then was soon promoted to assistant vice president and then later vice president. A few years later, he was promoted to senior vice president/operations officer/IT manager and held that until now.

Stahl is a Brownstown native, having graduated from Brownstown in 1994, and he continues to live there with his wife, Ashley, and three children.

Upon graduation, he continued his education at the University of Southern Indiana and attained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1998. In 2011, Stahl graduated from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking.

Outside of work, Stahl currently is an active member for the Jackson County Visitor Center and also serves as the financial secretary for his church, St. Paul Lutheran Church at Wegan.

In the past, Stahl served as a board member for Lutheran Central School along with coaching middle school basketball in Brownstown.

Jamie Grinstead is a Brownstown native, having graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 2000, and still resides there today with her husband, Ryan, and their two children.

She started her career with The Peoples Bank while in high school in 1999.

Starting in the bookkeeping/account services department, she was moved into the IT department. She later was promoted to IT systems administrator until now when she was promoted to assistant vice president/data center operations/IT systems administrator.

Outside of work, Grinstead is involved with the community and her family farm. She is second vice president of Phi Beta Psi sorority and a member of White River Valley Cemetery Board while also helping her husband with Grinstead Farms.

In 1990, Darla Leathermon started at The Peoples Bank as a teller. From there, she has held several different positions in the bank, from loan department to loan review officer/assistant compliance officer to her current position of assistant vice president/compliance officer.

She is a 1988 graduate of Brownstown Central High School but now resides in Seymour. She is engaged to be married to Mike Kelley from Seymour.

These five individuals’ new titles took effect Jan. 1.
