Seymour High School names class scholars

Ten members of the Seymour High School Class of 2021 have qualified for the Seymour Community Schools Scholar Award.

In announcing the scholars, Principal Greg Prange said he is very proud of this year’s award recipients.

“Not only are they very strong students in the classroom, they are true leaders,” Prange said. “Among them are outstanding competitors, musicians, volunteers and team players.”

He said they have great potential for becoming significant leaders in society, and he is confident they will make a positive impact wherever they work and live.

The students and their parents will be recognized at the graduation ceremony at 2:30 p.m. June 6 in the Lloyd E. “Barney” Scott Gymnasium.

The Scholar Award was initiated in 2000 as part of the school’s effort to encourage students to pursue strong academic programs in preparation for college.

The Class of 2021 is the 18th class eligible to receive the award.

To qualify for the award, students must complete a minimum of 54 credits and satisfy all of the requirements of the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma.

In addition, scholars must earn a minimum of 36 credits in English, mathematics, science, foreign language and social studies, have a weighted grade-point average of 4.90 for the 54 credits and earn a minimum of 11 credits in advanced placement courses with no grade lower than a B.

This year’s scholars are:

Madison Auleman

The daughter of Eva Auleman, Madison has been a member of National Honor Society since 2019. She made the high honor roll in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and was named Owl of the Month in 2018 and 2021. She has been a member of The Point, where she has served as a nursery volunteer for six years. Madison has participated in student government in 2018, 2020 and 2021 and has served as the senior class secretary. She has been part of the marching band throughout high school and has served as the alto saxophone section leader and first chair as a senior. Madison plans to attend Indiana University to stucy law and public policy.

Eleanore Cornn

The daughter of Bret and Holly Cornn of Seymour, Eleanore was the winner of the Lilly Endowment Scholarship in the fall of 2020. She was the runner-up in the Distinguished Young Women competition in 2020. Eleanore has been involved in the marching band each year in high school, serving as a section leader as a junior and drum major as a senior. She has participated in 4-H for 10 years and has served as a Junior Leader. In 2020, Eleanore was named 4-H royalty. She played varsity soccer for three years and played tennis throughout high school. She has been a three-year National Honor Society member and served in student government for four years. Eleanore has been a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she has served as a youth leader, religious education teacher and youth group member. Eleanore plans to attend Butler University to study health sciences.

Cameron Cox

The son of Justin and Missy Cox, Cameron has played soccer for four years and served as the team captain in 2019 and 2020. He was named varsity most valuable player in 2019 and 2020. Cameron was named all-Hoosier Hills Conference in soccer and named an all-academic player in 2020. He has been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he has served as an acolyte for two years. Cameron also has been a two-year member of National Honor Society and a two-year member of the track team. He has helped with Unified track and field for one year and been involved in student government for one year. In 2019, Cameron made the high honor roll. Cameron plans to attend Purdue University to study mathematics education.

Kirby Hill

The daughter of Jeff and Kim Hill of Seymour, Kirby is a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and has served as its youth group leader for two years and been a member for four years. Kirby is a member of the National Honor Society, student government and Key Club, where she served as class director in 2018-19. She has been a member of the girls cross country, soccer, swimming and tennis teams during high school. In 2019, Kirby received the 110% award for tennis. She has received recognition as a Rising Star of Indiana in 2020 and as an academic all-American in 2021. She had the opportunity to participate in a lab internship with Rose Acre Farms her senior year. Kirby will be graduating with an academic and technical honors diploma. She has been awarded the Purdue Presidential Scholarship. Kirby plans to attend Purdue University in the fall to study biochemistry.

Mallory Moore

The daughter of Brad and Wendy Moore of Seymour, Mallory plans to attend Purdue University and major in mathematics education. She has been a member of student government for four years, including one year as class president and one year as class vice president. Mallory also has served four years on the student athletic board. She was selected as both a Drug Abuse Resistance Education role model and a member of the Seymour Mayor’s Youth Council. She served on the Riley Dance Marathon executive committee and was vice president her senior year. Mallory also has competed on the soccer and tennis teams and was all-district, earned academic all-state honors and was named the all-county player of the year in soccer. Mallory attends Bethany Community Baptist Church, where she participates in youth services and sings in the choir.

Sydney Musgrave

The daughter of Sean and Brandi Musgrave, Sydney was selected as a D.A.R.E. role model and served three years on student government and two years with Riley Dance Marathon. She also volunteered with Special Olympics. Sydney has competed on the soccer and tennis teams and earned academic all-state honors and received the most improved player award in soccer. She is a three-year member of National Honor Society and plans to major in nursing at Purdue University.

Charlotte Rust

The daughter of Robert and Marjorie Rust, Charlotte is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Borchers. She is a member of National Honor Society and has made high honor roll every year in high school. Charlotte has been a four-year member of the Seymour FFA chapter and Luther League. She was a three-year member of the band and a two-year member of archery team and the musical set crew. Charlotte plans to attend Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and study chemical engineering.

Isaac Schafer

The son of Randy Schafer and Carolyn Ellington of Seymour, Isaac is a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he serves as the vice president of the youth group. Isaac is a member of National Honor Society and also served on the Riley Dance Marathon committee for two years. He received several athletic awards for outstanding achievement in soccer, including all-conference awards in 2019 and 2020 and attacker of the year in 2020. Isaac also served as the 2020 soccer team captain. He received varsity letters for his accomplishments in track and field for three years in a row and received a varsity letter for swimming in 2020 and was awarded most improved in 2020. Isaac plans on attending Purdue University and majoring in nursing.

Gavyn Scott Lewis Stagnolia

The son of Carl and Hope Lamb, Gavyn is a member of Central Christian Church, where he has served as choir accompanist for two years. He is a member of National Honor Society and the Gay-Straight Alliance Network. Gavyn has held important leadership roles for Seymour High School’s band and choir programs, serving as drum major and section leader for advanced choir. Gavyn also served as junior vice president of the Riley Dance Marathon committee in 2020 and is serving as this year’s president. He also is a representative for student government and served as a D.A.R.E. role model in 2020. Gavyn has been awarded Owl of the Month for world language and music achievements. He also was awarded student musician of the month for his performance in choir in 2020. Gavyn plans on attending the University of Southern California to study psychology and pre-medical.

Zachary Thompson

The son of Brad and Amy Thompson of Seymour, Zachary is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as an acolyte for the past three years. He also is a member of National Honor Society, student government, where he served as vice president in 2018-19 and president in 2019-20. Zachary has been a student of the varsity choir, serving as dance captain for four musical productions, and also has been the team manager for basketball, softball and volleyball for the last four years. In 2019, Zachary participated on the Riley Dance Marathon committee, and for the last two years, he has served as a D.A.R.E. role model. He also has been the recipient of three Owl of the Month awards for physical education (2018), family services (2019) and world language (2020). Zachary plans to attend Purdue University and study statistics.
