Ervin “Bill” Oakes

Ervin “Bill” Oakes, 72, of rural Crothersville, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at home.

Mr. Oakes retired from Meadows Metal Product in Columbus, as a foreman. He was a member of United Christian Church and a mason with Washington Masonic Lodge 13 in Brownstown.

Born Nov. 8, 1935, in Russell County, Ky., he was the son of

Orvis and Icey Carender Oakes. On Nov. 21, 1953, he married Ruby Miller Oakes, who survives in Crothersville.

Other survivors include a son, Ervin (Linda) Oakes, Crothersville; a

daughter, Sherry (Billy) Lee, Seymour; four grandchildren, Joshua (Marla) Waldrip, and Joey Waldrip, both of Bloomington, and Lindsey Oakes and Logan Oakes, both of Crothersville; four brothers, Mervin Oakes, Jonesville, and Ne Oakes, Rv Oakes and Clyde Oakes, all of Kentucky; and three sisters, Drettie Miller, Brownstown, Lucille Lane, Kentucky, and Sharon Brock, Medora.

The Rev. Damon Marling will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Sunday, at Adams Funeral Home, Crothersville, with burial to take place at Cana Cemetery, Jennings County.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, at Adams Funeral Home, Crothersville, and from noon until time of service Sunday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials may be given to Schneck Memorial Hospital Hospice c/o Adams Funeral Home, 110 E. Howard St., Crothersville, IN 47229
